For a long time Koreans have been against interracial marriage because they believe that you should marry someone from your own ethnicity. Korea prides itself on being a culturally and racially homogenous nation that projects a sense of unified identity to the world. But a combination of declining birth rates, an aging population, and economic pressures is creating a serious shortage of potential brides. As a result, Korean men are increasingly «importing» women from other nations and cultures.

Currently, there are 132,988 Koreans who are married to non-Koreans with F6(gyeolhonimin) visas. Most of them are Chinese but there are also a number of South Koreans and Americans. Two such couples recently shared their stories of crossing the cultural barrier in the Metropolitan.
